TOLEDO, Ohio –
Louis Vazquez has joined the Toledo cross country and track & field programs as associate head coach, the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field
Andrea Grove-McDonough announced on Wednesday.
"We are excited to welcomeÂ
Louis Vazquez as our new Associate Head Coach for cross country and track & field," said Grove-McDonough. "His journey from student-athlete to coach includes valuable time as a volunteer under legendary head coach Marcus O'Sullivan at Villanova, as well as holding coaching roles with Gary Gardiner at UMass Lowell as well as Ryan Vanhoy and Adam Smith at Ole Miss. This diverse and high-level experience will be a tremendous asset to our athletes and staff. Coach Louis will lead our reigning MAC Championship men's squad and continue to build on the momentum and success of our program. We're thrilled to have him on board!"
Vazquez brings over six years of Division I coaching experience to Toledo and spent the past two seasons at Ole Miss as an assistant cross country and track & field coach, working primarily with distance runners. He oversaw day-to-day activities within cross country and distance events, including the training of student-athletes and hosting official recruits.
Vazquez also spent two seasons (2021-23) as an assistant coach at UMass Lowell. He helped the River Hawks win five conference championships in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field including two cross country conference crowns in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 campaigns.
Prior to UMass Lowell, Vazquez was a volunteer assistant coach at Ole Miss where he assisted with the day-to-day coaching responsibilities with the distance program in addition to overseeing all aspects of recruiting. He helped the 2019 squad capture the SEC men's cross country title and the men's distance relay team run the fourth-fastest time in world history.
Before joining the Rebels, Vazquez served as a team manager at his alma mater Villanova, assisting with operations, recruiting, equipment, overseeing home meets and social media. He also worked directly with the men's distance student-athletes.
Vazquez graduated with a bachelor's degree in comprehensive sciences from Villanova in 2019, where he was a member of the cross country and track & field teams.
