RICHMOND, Va. – A four-run ninth inning pushed the Toledo baseball team past VCU, 6-2, at The Diamond on the first day of the Central Virginia Classic in Richmond, Va. on Friday.
Â
The Rockets (3-5) erased a 2-0 deficit for its first come-from-behind victory of the season, scoring twice on a throwing error, and once on an RBI double and a sac fly in the ninth to break a 2-2 deadlock. The defeat sent the Rams (2-7) to their fifth setback in six games.
Â
Toledo pitchers recorded 15 strikeouts on the day, their most since April 13, 2024 against Kent State, and did not allow a hit after the third inning.
Â
Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"I'm really happy with the way we competed today. All three pitchers were outstanding and kept the game close, allowing us to find a way to win late. We swung the bats better today and did what we needed to win the game. Always good to start a weekend with a win and we need that same focus tomorrow to keep it rolling."

- A single and hit by pitch put Rockets at first and second with no outs in the top of the ninth. Then, a throwing error by the pitcher on Caden Konczak's sacrifice bunt plated both runners and put Konczak on third.
