TOLEDO, Ohio – Anna Can has been hired as an assistant coach for the women's rowing team at the University of Toledo, Head Coach Chris Bailey-Greene announced today.
Toledo recently added women's rowing as its 17
th varsity sports program. The Rockets will begin competition in the 2025-26 season.
Can, a 2020 graduate of Ohio State University, most recently served as the men's varsity coach for the Olentangy Rowing Club in Lewis Center, Ohio. She has also served as an assistant for Upper Arlington Crew and Dublin Crew.
"What stood out about Anna throughout the hiring process was her attention to detail, her empathy toward others, and her inquisitive nature as to what it will take to build this team the right way moving forward," said Bailey-Greene. "She is driven to learn, grow, and be the best coach she can be for those around her, all qualities we look for in our athletes as well. Her focus on the holistic approach to athlete development will fit in perfectly at the University of Toledo. I cannot wait for her to arrive in March and hit the ground running!"

Can, who joined the Ohio State women's varsity rowing team as a walk-on, earned a degree in animal sciences and a minor in outreach education. She joined Dublin Crew as an assistant while still in college before accepting an assistant position with Upper Arlington Crew, where she acted as the primary coach for lightweight and 2V boats. She had been the primary coach for the Olentangy Rowing Club varsity men's team since August of 2022.
