TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo junior
Leah Evans has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Evans earned the award after recording seven top-two finishes at the Eastern Classic this past weekend. She placed first in the 400 medley relay (3:46.27), 200 IM (2:05.99), 200 free relay (1:34.06), 100 back (55.11) and 200 back (2:00.04). In the 200 back, she recorded the seventh-best time in program history. Evans took second in the 100 butterfly (55.11) and 200 medley relay (1:43.56).
The junior's performance helped Toledo tally wins over Illinois State and Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The win against EMU marked the first for the Rockets over the Eagles since 2013.
The Bristol, England native is majoring in health sciences and holds a 3.813 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, be at a sophomore or higher academic standing and have a worthy performance during the week's competition. One male and one female student-athlete from the conference is selected each week.Â
