BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Toledo women's volleyball fell to No. 3 seeded Ball State 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-22) in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Quarterfinals in Bowling Green, Ohio on Friday night.
The Rockets finished the season with a 17-14 record.
No. 6 seed Toledo was led by
Taylor Alt with 13 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Eight of Alt's kills came in the third and final set while the fifth-year senior recorded her 24
th match of the season with double-figure terminations. Sophomore
Caylee Sharkey poured in six kills on a .500 clip during the match while junior
Izzy Granger added five terminations of her own.
Freshman libero
Grace Freiberger had a team-best 11 digs, marking her 28
th match with double figure digs during her freshman campaign. Sophomore setter
Macy Hatkevich recorded a team-high 20 assists while graduate student
Ella Abraham tallied nine in her first game action since September.
Ball State (21-9) was led by Carson Tyler with 12 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE (25-16 Ball State)
- Both sides traded early points before Ball State pulled away with a 9-6 advantage.
- Kills from Taylor Alt and Izzy Granger tied the match, 10-10. A 5-1 run by the Cardinals put them back in front, 16-11.
- A kill from Granger cut the Cardinals' lead to four, 17-13, before Ball State rattled off four consecutive points to extend their advantage, 20-13.
- Ball State took the first set with a 3-0 run.
SET TWO (25-11 Ball State)
- The Cardinals took a quick 7-1 lead behind two service aces.
- Toledo got within four, 8-4, behind a kill from Alt and a block from Olivia Heitkamp and Anna Alford.
- Terminations from Kayla Ozanich and Heitkamp helped the Rockets cut Ball State's lead to 10, 17-7.
- Ball State used a 3-1 run to take the second set.
SET THREE (25-22 Ball State)
- A 4-0 run by the Rockets, powered by kills and a block from Sierra Pertzborn and Alt, put the Rockets in front, 8-4.
- An error from the Cardinals put Toledo ahead, 12-9, before Ball State fired off a 3-0 run to tie the match, 12-12.
- The Cardinals regained the lead with four consecutive points, 16-13. Toledo got within one, 16-15, off Alt's fifth kill in the set.
- Alt's eighth kill of the set put Toledo within two, 24-22, but a kill from Ball State secured the match victory.
