TOLEDO, Ohio - University of Toledo Vice President and Director of Athletics Bryan B. Blair announced a contract extension for Head Baseball Coach
Rob Reinstetle through the 2027 season on Friday.
Â
Since being named the Rockets' head coach, Reinstetle has led the Rockets to 112 victories, including at least 20 in each of the last four seasons, and his teams have appeared in two MAC Tournaments. Several Toledo student-athletes have earned awards at the conference, regional and national level during Reinstetle's tenure.
Â
"We are pleased to extend Coach Reinstetle's contract," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Bryan B. Blair. "Rob has continued to build success for our baseball program, positioning Toledo among the top programs in the MAC. He is a great role model and leader for our student-athletes off the diamond, with consistently strong team performances in the classroom. We are excited to have Coach Reinstetle leading this team to greater heights in the years to come."
"I would like to thank President Matt Schroeder, Mr. Blair and Deputy Athletic Director Al Tomlinson for their commitment to and belief in our baseball program," said Reinstetle. "Their support of our success on and off the field is essential for our continued growth in this ever-changing landscape of college athletics. I'm very proud to be the head baseball coach at the University of Toledo. We have worked extremely hard to build a successful program on the field and thrive in the classroom and community.
Â
"I would also like to thank my assistant coaches and all of my players, past and present. Everyone's support is appreciated and vital for us to continue to raise the bar for this program. This has included our support staff. They often go unnoticed, but are a major part in our program's success and are much appreciated here. Everyone involved has a hand in building something special for the future of Toledo baseball."
Â
After the 2020 season was cut short due to Covid, Reinstetle's teams have won 23, 33, 26 and 27 games the past four seasons, making Reinstetle the fourth head coach in program history to reach 100 victories. The 33 wins in 2022 were Toledo's most in a season since 2010. Toledo has also reached the MAC Tournament twice in the three years it has been played, winning three games across the two tournaments. The 2024 team won two elimination games to become the first Rocket team since 2013 to win multiple games in the MAC Tournament.
Â
Reinstetle has coached the first two MAC Players of the Year in program history – Chris Meyers in 2021 and
Jeron Williams in 2023 – and Toledo has totaled 15 All-MAC and MAC All-Defensive selections in the past four years. Meyers also became the MAC's first Triple Crown winner since 1998. UT has also been recognized nationally and regionally, as the Rockets have taken four All-Americans and three ABCA All-East Region selections under Reinstetle.
 Â
Under Reinstetle, several Rockets have gone on to play professionally, including four MLB draft picks. Meyers was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 13th round in 2021, Kyle Jones was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the ninth round in 2022, followed by pitcher Connor Brandon, who was taken by the New York Mets in the 17th round. Williams was then picked by the Houston Astros in the ninth round in 2023. Those Rocket alumni coached by Reinstetle have seen recent success in the pros, with Meyers winning two Eastern League Championships with the double-A Erie Seawolves and Williams being called up to double-A Corpus Christi in 2024.
Â
Toledo has also marked success in the classroom under Reinstetle. The Rockets have earned a 3.2 team GPA in every semester and has earned the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award each of the last three years. Toledo has put 40 players on Academic All-MAC teams and has had eight selections to the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District teams.
