Rockets to Face North Dakota State, Portland State This Weekend in Fargo

Toledo opens weekend vs. NDSU on Friday night

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's volleyball team will face North Dakota State and Portland State at a three-team tournament in Fargo this weekend.

The Rockets will battle NDSU on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. ET before facing Portland State on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. ET. Friday's match vs. the Bison will be streamed live on the Summit League Network.

Last Time Out
The Rockets hosted the Toledo Invitational last weekend and went 1-2, defeating Memphis but falling to Virginia Tech and Youngstown State.

Toledo's lone victory came on Saturday in a four-set victory over the Tigers. The final match of the Toledo Invitational proved to be the most evenly-matched of the tournament, as all four sets needed extra time to be settled. Memphis won the first set, 27-25, and Toledo won the next three sets by scores of 26-24, 27-25, and 27-25.

Senior Jada Bouyer was Toledo's All-Tournament Team selection. She hit .338 and averaged 2.69 kills/set while adding 0.92 blocks/set to help the cause. She saved her best for last, tallying weekend highs in kills (14), blocks (5), and attack percentage (.393) against Memphis.

Rocket Notes
  • Taylor Alt recorded a double-double in each of Toledo's three matches last weekend. She had seven double-doubles all of last season.
  • Jada Bouyer is one of six qualified MAC players with an attack percentage of at least .300 this season. She ranks fifth in the league at .321.
  • Toledo has faced each team exactly once before. UT hosted North Dakota State at a tournament open the 2019 season, and faced Portland State at a tournament in 1998. The Rockets are 0-1 against both opponents all-time.
  • Ryann Jaqua ranks fourth in the MAC in digs (4.58/set). She tallied a season-high 23 digs in the victory over Memphis.

Scouting the Competition
North Dakota State: North Dakota State is 4-2 entering the weekend and is coming off a 1-2 weekend in Dayton. Alie Hinze leads NDSU offensively, averaging 3.24 kills/set, while Arianna Blohm has been stout defensively, averaging 0.92 blocks/set. The Bison opened the year with four straight wins before dropping their last two matches vs. Dayton and Ohio.

Portland State: Portland State is coming off a big win, taking down Utah in four sets at home on Tuesday. Gabby Hollins (3.62 kills/set) and Sophia Meyers (3.36 kills/set) form the Vikings' 1-2 punch offensively, and Meyers is averaging an impressive 0.60 aces/set.

Next Time Out
Toledo returns home next Tuesday, Sept. 12 to host Oakland before taking part in a home-and-home weekend series vs. Notre Dame. The Rockets will head to South Bend to face the Fighting Irish on Friday, Sept. 15 before both teams face off in Savage Arena on Sunday, Sept. 17.
