MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Seniors Pawit Sornlaksup and Adam Kovac opened their fall season at the 47th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic this weekend, combining for a 3-3 record against some of the top players in the region. Sornlaksup was the No. 2 seed and was the first Rocket to make it to the semifinals of the prestigious event.

In singles play, No. 2 seeded Sornlaksup opened the tournament with a two-set victory over Mathis Bondaz from Virginia Commonwealth. He advanced in the bracket and went one-on-one with Calvin Mueller (Nebraska) and defeated him in a three-set thriller. Sornlaksup was trailing in the first set to Illinois' Jeremy Zhang in the quarterfinals, when he bounced back to win in two straight sets, 7-5 and 6-1, and punch his ticket to the semifinals.

Sornlaksup took the first set vs. Kenta Miyoshi (Illinois) 6-1 before withdrawing for the remainder of the set to end his time in the tournament.

Kovac fell in his first singles match of the tournament on Friday, a two-set decision to Illinois' Tyler Bowers. Kovac was moved to the consolation bracket and was scheduled to play Leo Lopez Linquet (Nebraska) before retiring to end his run in the tournament.

The duo fell 6-4 to a tough Nebraska doubles team of Muller and Linquet on Friday afternoon.

"This prestigious event was a great experience for both Adam Kovac and Pawit Sornlaksup," said assistant coach Thomas Brennen, who traveled to Milwaukee this weekend. "Pawit had a great run. He battled a lot of adversity all weekend, and came out on top in some close matches. I'm really proud of him. This is a great platform to build from and we'll continue to improve for the season ahead."

Up next on Toledo's schedule is the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 30-Oct. 8.
