TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo junior wide receiver
Jerjuan Newton was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list today.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position, who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver.
Newton was a second-team All-MAC selection in 2022. He led the Rockets with 53 receptions, and was tied for third in MAC and tied for 19th in country with nine touchdown receptions. He was also fifth in the MAC in yards per reception (15.7).
The semifinalists, finalists, and award recipient are selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of 650 prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers. The 2023 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented the Biletnikoff Award trophy at the Biletnikoff Award Banquet & Celebration at the Dunlap Champions Club, at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
The defending MAC Champion Rockets open their season at Illinois on Sept. 2 before debuting at home with "Toledo's Biggest Party" on Saturday, Sept. 9 in a 3:30 p.m. matchup with Texas Southern. To order tickets or for more information, please visit this link or call/text 419.530.GOLD (4653) or stop by the Rocket Ticket Office located in the Sullivan Athletic Complex at Savage Arena during office hours.Â
