TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team will play its final two matches of the regular season this weekend at home vs. Buffalo and Binghamton at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. The Rockets (14-5, 6-2 MAC) are in second place in the Mid-American Conference standings, a half-game behind Western Michigan (7-2 MAC), with the top four teams advancing to the tournament next weekend in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Friday's match will begin at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday's match will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and can be streamed locally on BCSN. Should SUnday's match be moved indoors, it will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.Â
The Rockets defeated Buffalo and Binghamton on March 24 and 26, respectively, starting their current five-match winning streak.
About the Rockets (14-5, 6-2 MAC)
Toledo pulled off two revenge victories last weekend, taking down Northern Illinois and Western Michigan on the road and extending its winning streak to five matches. The win vs. the Broncos was the first for Head Coach
Al Wermer in his 26 years at the helm of the Rockets. The Rockets lost to both schools at home earlier in the season.
Pawit Sornlaksup continued his domination at the No. 1 singles court, capturing his 38
th and 39
th consecutive wins, the longest winning streak in program history. Since joining the Rockets last season, Sornlaksup has won 20-straight MAC matches.
Krzysztof Wetoszka had his career-high 10 match winning streak come to an end on Sunday with a loss vs. the Broncos from the No. 2 court.
About Buffalo (9-6, 5-3 MAC)
Buffalo handed Western Michigan its first conference loss this season on March 31 and proceeded to win its next three matches leading up to this weekend. Most recently the Bulls defeated Binghamton for the second time this season, 4-3 on April 8.
About Binghamton (4-18, 0-8 MAC)
Binghamton has not won a match since beginning conference play on March 10. The Bearcats' closest match was a 4-3 setback to Buffalo last weekend.
