TOLEDO, Ohio – Riding a five-game winning streak, the Toledo women's basketball team welcomes Buffalo to Savage Arena on Wednesday night. Action between the Rockets and Bulls will tip off at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
Toledo (17-4, 8-2 MAC) finds itself in the thick of the race for the top spot in the Mid-American Conference entering Wednesday's contest. At 8-2 in league play, UT is just one game back of first-place Ball State (9-1) and Bowling Green (9-1), and two games ahead of Kent State (6-4). The Rockets will end the regular season against those three teams, visiting Ball State on Saturday, Feb. 25 before hosting Kent State on Wednesday, March 1 and Bowling Green on Saturday, March 4.
The last time the Rockets took the court was last Saturday when they defeated Ohio, 66-55, at Savage Arena. Toledo led the Bobcats by 11 points at halftime before the offensive well ran dry. UT missed 10 straight shots to begin the second half, allowing the Bobcats to pull within a point. Justina King tallied Toledo's first second-half basket, an and-one at the 1:10 mark of the third quarter that pushed the lead back up to four, 42-38. Ohio continued to hang around, again making it a one-point game with 5:52 to go in the fourth quarter, but eight straight points from Khera Goss put the score at 60-51 and gave the Rockets enough breathing room to put away the Bobcats for good.
Goss led the way with 13 points, eight of which came during her fourth quarter spurt. She was one of four Rockets to score in double figures, with Quinesha Lockett (12 points), Jayda Jansen (12 points), and Sophia Wiard (10 points) also reaching that benchmark.
Lockett is averaging 17.4 PPG on the season, ranking fifth in the MAC in that category. She has six games with at least 20 points this year, and five of those performances have come during MAC play.
Following the Buffalo game, Toledo will play four of its next five games on the road, with the lone home matchup taking place on Saturday, Feb. 18 vs. Eastern Michigan at 2:00 p.m. That game will be the annual "Rockets for the Cure" game, which will help benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Northwest Ohio and the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center. The Rockets encourage everyone in attendance to wear pink that day in support of breast cancer research.
Fans can purchase tickets for $13 apiece with $5 of each sale donated to the Susan G. Komen and Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center. Please visit utrockets.com/RFCtix to purchase tickets.
