SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Toledo Baseball team put together its most complete game of the young season on Saturday in an 11-3 win at USC Upstate.

The Rockets took the lead with a three-run fourth inning and blew the game open by scoring six runs in the top of the sixth. The four Toledo pitchers that saw time on the mound did their part as well and it all culminated in a convincing victory.

"That was a good win against a really good team," head coach Rob Reinstetle said. "USC Upstate is always at the top of their league and when you look at end of year that team will have won a lot of games. Today we played like I expect this team to play. It all starts on the mound and Noah Johnson gave us a good outing, and the bullpen pitched well too.

"Offensively we swung the bats well. We had good at-bats up and down the lineup. When that happens, the scoreboard looks like it did today. I'm really proud of the guys for coming out today after a tough loss last night and playing good baseball. Now we need to replicate today's performance tomorrow and come out ready to play the way we're capable of."

Noah Johnson earned the win with five solid innings and seven strikeouts. Kyle Pijaszek, Matt LeLito, and Parker Newby all pitched well out of the bullpen, combining to allow just one run over four innings while striking out three.

Six Rockets drove in runs on Saturday, with Jeron Williams and Garret Pike both tallying two RBI apiece at the top of the order. Pike mashed his second home run of the season, while Williams stole a base and scored twice out of the leadoff spot. Brian Fry went 3-for-5 with an RBI double and two runs scored, and Owen Jackson hit his second home run of the year, a solo shot. Daunte DeCello and Scott Mackiewicz both drove in runs as well.

The Rockets wrap up their weekend at the OneSpartanburg, Inc. Baseball Classic on Sunday afternoon at Gardner-Web. First pitch against the Runnin' Bulldogs is set for 1:00 p.m.

How it Happened
  • USC Upstate scored first on a bases-loaded walk in the second inning.
  • The Rockets grabbed the lead with a three-run top of the fourth highlighted by Owen Jackson's solo homer. UT's other two runs came on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Daunte DeCello.
  • The Spartans answered with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to trim Toledo's lead to one, 3-2.
  • The top of the sixth was the biggest inning of the game, with the Rockets plating six runs with two outs to take a commanding 9-2 lead. Scott Mackiewicz started the rally with a bases-loaded walk, and Jeron Williams followed that up with a two-run single into left-center field. Mackiewicz later scored on a wild pitch just before Garret Pike launched a two-run bomb over the fence in right-center to put an exclamation point on the top of the sixth.
  • Brian Fry added to the lead in the top of the seventh with a two-out RBI double, and Williams scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth to make it 11-2.
  • USC Upstate added a run in the bottom of the eighth, but it proved to be far too little too late in the 11-3 decision.
