Rockets' 4x400m Relay Team Takes Crown at Silverston Invitational

Alexia Moehling and Mayson Bates crack Toledo's 60H top-10 list

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 4x400m team of Laryah Worthy, Shianne Johnson, Krystal Clark, and Khamani Jones claimed victory to lead the Toledo women's track & field team at the Silverston Invitational in Ann Arbor on Friday night. The Rockets came away with eight personal bests, including two top-10 times in school history in their final regular-season meet of the indoor track & field season.
 
The 4x400m team crossed the finish line at 4:06.88 to post the fastest Toledo time in the event this season. The Rockets finished nearly 14 seconds ahead of the second-place team to earn the statement victory.
 
Senior Alexia Moehling and sophomore Mayson Bates recorded the sixth- and seventh-fastest indoor 60H times in school history. Moehling posted a personal-best time of 8.69 in the finals to place third while Bates (8.78) finished close behind in fifth place. Bates' time of 8.70 in the prelims marked a new PR and earned her a spot on the Toledo indoor top-10 list.
 
Sophomore Sydney Caddell represented the Rockets in the long jump and triple jump, placing fifth in both events. Caddell surpassed her previous PR in the long jump by 0.10m to reach a mark of 5.20, and jumped a distance of 9.95m in the triple jump.
 
Three Rockets – Clare Logan, Bates, and Makenna Englund – competed in the high jump, all reaching marks of 1.58m. Logan was the runner-up, Bates tied her career-high, and Englund set a new PR in the event.
 
Freshman Paris Gosha led the way for the Rockets in the 60m, finishing 10th in the prelims with a time of 7.86. Junior Meyah Haywood tied her personal best with a time of 7.91 to finish 13th while sophomore Jimesha Ragland (7.93) finished just behind her in 14th.
 
Gosha was also the top Toledo finisher in the 200m, completing the sprint in 26.16. Just behind her was Jones with a time of 26.26. Worthy set a PR with a time of 26.34, while Logan crossed the finish line at 27.18 in the first 200m race of her career.
 
Juniors Sarah-Rose Sullivan and Audrey Witham recorded times of 2:14.21 and 2:22.84 in the 800m, respectively. Sullivan placed sixth while Witham came in 17th.
 
Senior Jordyn Boyer (5:11.97) shattered her personal best in the mile by nearly six seconds to place ninth in the mile, as the lone Rocket competing in the event.
 
Junior Emily Vining posted a third-place finish in the 3000m event, recording a time of 9:49.08.
 
Six members of the men's cross country team competed also traveled to Ann Arbor to compete in the distance races.
 
Senior Cooper Losey finished second in the 3000m with a time of 8:30.05. Senior Jonathon Hrivnak and junior Geoff Howles finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth place, recording times of 8:38.98 and 8:46.13, respectively.
 
In the mile, sophomore Dennis Mutai earned a 10th place finish with a time of 4:15.83. Freshman Joshuah Taylor and sophomore Xavier Gallo finished close behind with respective times of 4:24.76 and 8:46.13.
 
The Rockets will compete in the 2023 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, held in Bowling Green, Ohio, next Friday-Saturday, Feb. 24-25. Both days of competition will get underway at 10:00 a.m.
