ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Senior Pawit Sornlaksup led the way for a group of seven players from the Toledo men's tennis team at the ITA Midwest regionals in Ann Arbor, reaching the quarterfinals of the main singles draw. Sornlaksup compiled a 5-2 record, falling to Ohio State in two sets on Sunday afternoon.

Sornlalsup automatically qualified for the main singles draw, where he defeated opponents in two sets from Wisconsin and Northwestern. Sornlaksup followed with a huge win over Illinois' No.11 ranked Karlis Ozolins to reach the quarterfinals. Sornlaksup, who was seeded #9, saved two match points in the second set before turning the table on Ozolins, then dominating the last 40 minutes to put him away (3-6, 7-5, 6-1). This was the best college win of Sornlaksup's career considering the ranking. Sornlaksup saw his run come to an end in a two-set defeat to Ohio State's Jack Anthrop.

Senior Marko Galic defeated opponents from Eastern Illinois, Marquette, and Wisconsin in the open singles draw to join Sornalksup in the main draw. Galic saw this time run out in a two-set defeat to Michigan State's Sebastein Collard, and also had a 5-2 combined record.

Sornlaksup and Galic also went 2-1 in the doubles draw before being taken out by Michigan's Nino Ehrenschneider and Gavin Young.

The Rockets began their run in the qualifier draw on Thursday morning, when freshman Cole Cozens, Galic, and sophomore Matias Olivero all went 2-0 in an effort to make their way into the main singles draw. Cozens and Olivero were both eliminated from the tournament after falling to Mid-American Conference foes from Northern Illinois.

"We came in expecting to see progress and I think we did," head coach Al Wermer said. "Marko and Pawit had specific goals, and they capitalized on their opportunity. Pawit's run and his Round of 16 dramatic comeback win and finishing in the top eight of our exceptionally strong Midwest Region was terrific to watch."

Toledo will be back in the state of Michigan next week for the MAC Indoors on Friday-Sunday, Nov. 3-5 in Kalamazoo.
