TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo men's tennis players
Pawit Sornlaksup and
Adam Kovac will head to Milwaukee, Wisc. to compete at the 46th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic this weekend. The national event will take place Sept. 16-18 at the Milwaukee Tennis Club.
"This is a prestigious national ITA event with many of the top players in the country, and it's a reward for players to be one of the 32 accepted," Head Coach
Al Wermer said. "Pawit and Adam both had big summers with good results. Each match in this event will provide great experience that can help them as players and team leaders."
The event will feature 32 singles draws and 16 doubles draws for men and women. The event will also be classified as an ITA Gold Level, meaning the singles champions will receive a wild card into the 2022 ITA Fall National Championships on Nov. 2-6 in San Diego, Calif.
Sornlaksup and Kovac will participate in both singles and doubles competition.
2022 MAC Player of the Year
Pawit Sornlaksup was recently ranked as the No.17 singles player in the ITA Midwest Region. He ended his Toledo debut season on a 21-match win streak that included all 10 conference singles matchups. He was also voted first-team All-MAC, received MAC Player of the Week six times last season (four singles, and two doubles team) and was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete. Sornlaksup and fellow MAC All-Tournament Team member
Marko Galic were ranked as the ITA No. 8 doubles team.
Adam Kovac received second-team All-MAC honors last season, posting a singles record of 10-13 (6-3 MAC) from the No. 2 court and a doubles record of 13-9 (5-5 MAC) from the No. 3 court paired mostly with
Luka Jankovic.
