Toledo Drops Final Two to Ohio

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team ended its 2022 campaign Wednesday night in a doubleheader loss to Ohio at Scott Park. The Rockets lost by a 12-8 margin in the opener and fell by a close 5-4 margin in the nightcap.

Senior Aubrey Reed highlighted the Rockets' offense in game one, going 4-for-5 with a homer, triple and two RBIs. Sophomore Jenna Kroll also added two hits and two RBIs. Reed and senior Dayna Denner contributed to the Rockets with two triples

Senior Aleah Marra went 2-for-3 with two doubles in game two. Senior Anna Dixon also connected on two hits with one RBI.

Ohio's Mackensie Kohl picked up the win in the opener, allowing seven runs on 11 hits, and striking out five batters through the complete game. Kylie Coffelt allowed three runs on nine hits including three strike outs through 7.0 innings of work for the game two win.  

Toledo's one home run today gives the team to 36 for the season, ranking third in program history. 

How it Happened:
GAME 1 – Ohio 12, Toledo 8
  • Ohio opened the game with three runs in the first inning, including a two-run home and an RBI single.
  • Junior Riley Mohr brought around the lead runner for the Rockets with a bases loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the first.
  • Senior Bri Robeson crossed home in the second on a throwing error by the Bobcats to make it a 3-2 game.  
  • OU's Brooke Rice cleared the bases with a grand slam in the third.
  • The Rockets answered with a solo homer by senior Aubrey Reed, her seventh on the season, and an RBI single from freshman Sidney Griffith  to trim the lead to 7-4.
  • The Bobcats tallied one run in the fifth on an RBI single to right field.
  • UT tied the game 7-7 with three runs in the sixth on a two-run double by sophomore Jenna Kroll, who eventually rounded the bases and scored on an error.  
  • Ohio took a four-run lead in the seventh, highlighted by Annalia Paoli's three-run dinger.
  • Senior Dayna Denner tripled, her first of the season, and was brought home on a triple from Reed for the final Toledo run.  
GAME 2 – Ohio 5, Toledo 4
  • Ohio tallied four runs in the opening inning, on an error and a three-run homer.
  • Toledo answered with two runs, made possible by an error and a fielder's choice.
  • UT closed the gap to 4-3 in the second when senior Aleah Marra scored on a wild pitch.
  • The Rockets tied the game 4-4 on an RBI single from senior Anna Dixon in the fourth.
  • The Bobcats scored the final run in the sixth on an RBI single.
