Last Time Out
- The Rockets were 2-3 at the Jane B. Moore Memorial Tournament in Auburn, Ala. Senior Dayna Denner and junior Riley Mohr were named to the All-Tournament Team.
- Denner crushed her fourth home run of the season vs. Chattanooga (March 5), the 22nd of her career. She is now tied for second in Toledo history with Leslie Strong (2005-08) for career homers. She is two bombs away from becoming the all-time record holder, behind Kaitlyn Bergman (2015-18) who has 24. Denner's two walks bumped her to eighth all-time in Toledo's walks list with 50.
- Senior Aubrey Reed had a huge weekend at Auburn with a home run, a double and four RBIs.
- Freshman Sophia Knight picked up the win vs. Chattanooga (5-4) on Saturday morning. Knight pitched a complete game including two strike outs. Sophomore Annika Johnson picked up the tournament finale on Sunday, a 7-6 win vs. North Carolina A&T, pitching 4.0 innings and waving five of 14 batters faced.
About Niagara
Niagara (11-19 in 2021) will open its 2022 season vs. Toledo on Thursday. The Purple Eagles return two All-MAAC honorees graduate student Heather Habermann and sophomore Maggie Kellner, and was selected to finish ninth in this season's MAAC Preseason Poll.
About LIU Brooklyn
LIU Brooklyn (6-15) is into its second half of The Spring Games tournament. The Sharks recently lost both games in their doubleheader vs. Central Michigan on Tuesday, 5-1 and 6-1. The Sharks scored first in both games, but the Chippewas answered back in a dominating way to win the games. LIU Brooklyn will play Western Michigan Thursday at 4:00 p.m. before taking the field with Toledo at 6:30 p.m.
About Purdue
Purdue (8-13) ended the final day of the FAU Parents' Weekend Tournament with a 4-1 loss to SIU Edwardsville on Sunday. The Boilermakers are led by senior Rachel Becker with a .310 average, 11 runs and .467 on-base percentage. In the circle, senior Alex Echazarreta leads with a 3-1 record, including a 2.03 ERA and 44 strike outs. Echazarreta recorded 12 strike outs over two games with SIU Edwardsville and Illinois State on March 5. Purdue will play Lafayette College Friday morning before taking the field with Toledo at 1:30 p.m.
About Bucknell
Bucknell (2-10) has lost their last six games, most recently both games vs. UNC Greensboro (10-1, 5 inn.) and Loyola Chicago (3-1) on day two of UNCG Invitational on Feb. 27. Senior Nicole Rivaita leads the Bison offense with a .316 average including 13 hits, four doubles, and a .410 on-base percentage. Senior Kelly Toomey runs the circle with a 4.32 ERA through 34.0 innings including 28 strike outs. Bucknell will play Siena Friday morning before taking the field with Toledo at 4:00 p.m.
About Holy Cross
Holy Cross (2-9) dropped its most recent mid-week doubleheader with North Florida on Tuesday. The 1-0 loss in the first game was off a solo home run in the third. The Crusaders scored off a wild pitch in the third inning of the second game to take a one-run lead, but were ultimately defeated 5-1. Holy Cross will stop at No. 3 Florida State on Wednesday on its way down to The Spring Games. The Rockets will be the Crusader's second-to-last game of their tournament schedule on Saturday afternoon.
On Deck
Toledo will open Mid-American Conference play at Western Michigan on Friday-Saturday, March 18-19. The Rockets and Broncos will play three games at Ebert Field.
