TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team (21-6, 13-3 MAC) will look to maintain its position at the top of the Mid-American Conference when it travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face Western Michigan (6-21, 2-14 MAC) on Tuesday, Feb. 22. Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m. in University Arena with streaming available on ESPN3.
The Rockets are tied for first place in the MAC with Ohio (22-5, 13-3) and a game ahead of third-place Kent State (17-9, 12-4 MAC). If the season ended today, Toledo would be the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament by virtue of sweeping its season series vs. the Bobcats.
The Rockets pulled out a 68-66 home victory on Saturday over Central Michigan for the ninth win in their last 11 meetings against the Chippewas. Junior
JT Shumate tied his season high with 29 points in the win and finished 10-of-16 from the field. He also tied his career high with five three-point field goals.
Sophomore
Ryan Rollins ranks fourth in the MAC with a team-high 19.0 ppg and is tied for second on the team with 6.0 rpg. Shumate is second with 15.7 ppg and is grabbing a team-best 6.1 rpg. Juniors
Setric Millner Jr. (14.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and
RayJ Dennis (12.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.9 apg) are also scoring in double digits.
Shumate and Rollins led the way offensively with 22 and 20 points, respectively, in Toledo's 83-56 win over WMU on Dec. 29. Rollins hit 8-of-11 shots and Shumate knocked down 8-of-12 attempts in the victory.
Western Michigan has won two of three games with home wins over CMU and Akron. Junior Lamar Norman Jr. leads the MAC in scoring at 20.2 ppg and is averaging a league-best 21.7 ppg in MAC play. Sophomore Markeese Hastings ranks second on the team with 8.9 ppg and second in the MAC with 8.9 rpg.
