TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team capped its final home non-conference match with a 6-1 victory over Duquesne on Friday. The win improved the Rockets to 6-1 overall this season, marking their sixth win in a row and their 10-straight win at home dating back to April 2, 2021.

Toledo started off strong with a sweep in doubles competition to take an early 1-0 match lead. Shalini Tallamraju and Julia Kuszynski won the No. 2 court with a 6-0 victory over Margot Pessy/ Anan Utrilla Benito. Cassie Alcala and Sloane Teske secured the point for the Rockets with a 6-1 victory on the No. 1 court while Patricia Panta and Christina Fuller won 6-3 on the No. 3 court.  

"I was really happy with the energy we started out with in doubles," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. " It's something we've been working on in practice."

The Rockets held their own in singles competition, taking the top five courts. Junior Sloane Teske won her first set on the No. 2 court, but Anan Utrilla Benito wouldn't go away and forced a third set. Teske gave her all and took the match 6-1. Shalini was down in the start of her match on the No. 4 court with Natasha Novak, but she came from behind to win the opening set 7-5, and the second set 6-2 for the match win. The only victory for the visitors was on the No. 6 court from Daniela Latoni in stright wins over senior Eileen Carney (3-6, 3-6).

"I'm proud of the dominant effort from start to finish today," Mauntler said. 

Toledo will spend the remainder of is nonconference matches on the road, beginning with Cleveland State and Cincinnati next weekend in Cleveland. The Rockets will hit two teams in both West Virginia and California before opening conference play in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Sunday, Mar. 20 vs. Eastern Michigan.
