TOLEDO, Ohio – The 2022 Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament begins on Sunday, Nov. 20 in Muncie, Ind. with No. 5 seed Toledo facing off against No. 4 seed Central Michigan. The Rockets' match begins at 4:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
2022 MAC Tournament
The 2022 MAC Tournament will be hosted by regular season champion Ball State and begin with two matches on Sunday. Following the Toledo vs. CMU contest, No. 3 Ohio will face No. 6 Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. The winner of that match will go on to face No. 2 Bowling Green in the semifinals, while the winner of the battle between the Rockets and Chippewas will advance to the semis to face No. 1 Ball State. The championship match will be held on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The entire tournament will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Getting Up to Speed on the Rockets
- Toledo finished the regular season with an overall record of 18-11 and a MAC record of 11-7
- This marks the first time that the Rockets have qualified for the MAC Tournament in consecutive seasons since the format changed in 2011. From 2003-10, every team made the MAC Tournament.
- The Rockets clinched their MAC Tournament spot last Saturday, Nov. 12 against Kent State. UT went 2-0 in Kent that weekend to solidify its spot. Prior to that sweep, Toledo had alternated between wins and losses for 11 straight matches.
- The Rockets were 6-3 on the road during MAC play this season.
- Toledo's started the year 3-0 with wins over CSU Bakersfield, Arizona State, and Northern Iowa, its first 3-0 start since 2011.
- The Rockets' win over Arizona State on Aug. 27 was the first over a Power Five opponent since Aug. 28, 2010 when they defeated No. 12 Michigan at home to capture the Rocket Classic.
- Toledo won 12 straight sets from Sept. 16 vs. EIU through the Sept. 23 match at Eastern Michigan. The streak was snapped with a first-set loss to CMU last Thursday. Last season, the Rockets had a streak of 17 straight sets won from Sept. 25 (first set at Ohio) through Oct. 15 (second set vs. Western Michigan) that ranks as the second-longest such streak in program history. The 2005 team won 18 straight sets at one point in their season, the longest stretch in school history.
- According to official NCAA stats, Toledo has played the third-toughest schedule in the MAC this season behind Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan.
- Taylor Alt leads the MAC in scoring (4.64 points/set) and kills (4.02/set). One of the most prolific outside hitters in the country, she ranks 14th among active players in career kills/set (3.99). Her career kills/set average is the highest in program history.
- Ryann Jaqua sits at 1,635 career digs, good for third all-time in program history. She is 102 digs away from passing Lora Sarich (1,736, 2003-06) to move into second place. Overall, Jaqua is averaging 4.89 digs/set this year, which ranks third in the MAC and 27th in the country.
Last Time Out vs. CMU
Toledo hosted Central Michigan earlier this season on Sept. 29-30, splitting the series with the Chippewas.
The Rockets took the first match in four sets. CMU won the first set, 25-19, to take a 1-0 lead in the match, but Toledo answered by winning the next three sets (25-23, 25-19, 25-20) to capture the match.
Ryann Jaqua led UT with a season-high 33 digs, her second match with at least 30 digs this season.
Payton Morman tallied her second double-double of the season with 32 assists and 10 digs, and
Abby Ray collected 11 digs.
The Chippewas responded by winning the second match in four sets. CMU won the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-22, but the Rockets kept themselves alive by winning the third set, 25-22. Toledo was unable to keep up with Central Michigan in the fourth set, however, falling 25-16 to the Chippewas.
Taylor Alt led the way with a match-high 17 kills and 11 digs, her third double-double of the year.
