Rockets Set to Battle Bearcats in Wednesday Matinee Matchup

11/15/2022 1:47:00 PM

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team hits the road for its first game away from home this season, a Wednesday morning matchup with the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Wednesday's game at Fifth Third Arena will tip off at 11:00 a.m. and be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Rockets are coming off a 93-66 win over Canisius last Friday that pushed them to 2-0 on the young season. Toledo stormed out to a 23-6 lead after one quarter of play, but saw its lead dip back down to seven points, 35-28, after the Golden Griffins (0-2) put together a 14-4 run midway through the second quarter. UT quickly rebounded and pushed its lead back to double digits, maintaining control for the remainder of the game.

Quinesha Lockett scored a game-high 27 points and added 10 rebounds for her fifth career double-double. Sophia Wiard stuffed the box score on Friday, scoring 20 points while adding four rebounds and six assists. Khera Goss (10 points) and Justina King (10) both cracked double figures in scoring as well, while Lonasia Brewer contributed seven rebounds, five on the offensive end. Sammi Mikonowicz nearly turned in a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing nine rebounds.

Toledo shot 45.3 percent from the floor and made 10-of-24 three-pointers (41.7 percent) while also taking care of business from the free-throw line. UT made 25-of-31 free throws on Friday, the most made free throws in a game since Feb. 1, 2020 vs. Kent State. The Rockets also outrebounded Canisius, 47-30, and held their opponents to 20-of-56 shooting (35.7 percent).

Rocket Notes
  • The Rockets enter Wednesday's game with the longest active road winning streak in the country, having won their last 11 road games. The last road game Toledo lost was at Missouri State last season, a 60-46 setback on Dec. 21, 2021.
  • Head Coach Tricia Cullop won her 298th career game as the Rockets' head coach on Friday, putting her just two victories away from 300 for her career at Toledo. She is the program's all-time leader in coaching wins.
  • Quinesha Lockett's 1,421 career points are 16th all-time and just four away from moving past Inma Zanoguera (2011-15) into 15th place all-time.
  • There have been eight players in the MAC to record a double-double this season, and Toledo is the only school with multiple players: Lockett and Jessica Cook. Lockett tallied her double-double against Canisius (27 points and 10 rebounds) and Cook recorded hers in the season opener against Wright State (19 points and 10 rebounds).
  • Few teams in the country have been stronger offensively than Toledo, which ranks 12th nationally in points per game (90.5).
  • No team in the MAC had a better start to the year than the Rockets, who rank first in the league in scoring (90.5 PPG), scoring margin (+29.5), and rebounding margin (+18.5) and are tied for first in scoring defense (56.0 PPG).
  • Toledo scored 30 points in the third quarter against Canisius. The last time UT scored at least 30 points in a quarter was Dec. 10, 2020 at Northern Illinois when it scored 30 in the fourth quarter. Sophia Wiard tied the program's single-game scoring record that game, scoring 42 points.
