TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's tennis team concludes its season this weekend with a pair of home matches. The Rockets host Buffalo on Friday, April 23 before welcoming Binghamton on Sunday, April 25. Both matches are set to begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be played outside at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
Sunday's match will be televised locally on BCSN2.
"Although last time around we handled both these teams, I think our guys know the reality of how close all these MAC dual matches get," head coach Al Wermer said. "The difference is often just a couple shots."
This weekend will be the final go-around for three Rocket seniors: Nikola Arsic, Thawin Suksathaporn, and Filip Zupancic.
Last Time Out
Toledo faced the two top teams in the MAC last weekend, falling to Northern Illinois and Western Michigan on the road.
In Friday's loss in DeKalb, Northern Illinois started off by winning the doubles point, claiming victories on the No. 1 and 3 courts to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Rockets couldn't find any traction in singles play either, as the Huskies won five of six matches to take a 6-1 decision. Sophomore Krzysztof Wetoszka was the lone victor for Toledo on the afternoon, defeating his NIU counterpart 6-2, 6-1 on the No. 3 court.
Against MAC-leading WMU on Sunday, the Broncos won the doubles point by claiming the matches on courts No. 2 and 3. The Rockets' duo of freshman Adam Kovac and senior Thawin Suksathaporn won on the top doubles court, but WMU captured the other two matches to take a 1-0 lead. Toledo won two of the six singles matches. Wetoszka was victorious on the No. 3 court, and freshman Wojciech Szczesny won on the No. 5 court. The Broncos were able to win on the other four courts to take the match.
About Buffalo
Buffalo is 3-7 entering Friday's match and has lost its last six contests. Toledo won the previous meeting, 5-2, on April 2. Bjoern Petersen has played all 10 matches on the No. 1 singles court and owns a record of 4-6.
About Binghamton
Binghamton enters the weekend 0-5 and has not played a match since its April 4 home contest against Toledo due to COVID-19 issues, a match the Rockets won 7-0.
