Toledo to Visit Eastern Michigan & Ball State this Weekend

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team hits the road this weekend for a pair of MAC matches, visiting Eastern Michigan on Friday and Ball State on Sunday. Both matches are set to start at 1:00 p.m.
"Every single match in our conference is tough and we are preparing the same way each week," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Our goal is always to be a little better each time we practice or play. With such a young squad, I've been impressed at our focus early on in this MAC season. We're looking forward to competing on Friday and Sunday."
Last Time Out
The Rockets hosted Northern Illinois and Bowling Green last weekend, taking down the Huskies before dropping a close one to the Falcons.
In Friday's win over NIU, the Rockets opened the afternoon by winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Freshman Cassie Alcala and sophomore Sloane Teske won on the top court, while sophomore Laura Morera and senior Patricia Panta defeated their counterparts on the No. 2 court to earn the doubles point.
Toledo dominated the Huskies during singles play, winning five of six matches after NIU captured the first singles point on court No. 3. Alcala fought to earn the last point for Toledo on the No. 1 court, posting a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 victory over NIU's Maria Posti. The Rockets also notched victories on the No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles courts.
In the loss to BGSU, the Rockets once again won the doubles point, but the Falcons won four of the six singles matches to clinch the victory. Panta and freshman Julia Kuszynski both won their singles contests, and Panta teamed up with Morera again to win on the No. 2 doubles court while Alcala and Teske defeated the top Bowling Green pairing.
About Eastern Michigan
Eastern Michigan in 6-8 and 0-4 in MAC play entering Friday's match having lost all four conference matches by identical 6-1 scores. Isabelle Popma has played all 14 matches on the top singles court for the Eagles, and Luisa Pelayo leads the team with nine singles victories, including an 8-1 record on the No. 3 court.
About Ball State
Ball State enters the weekend at 12-2 and 3-0 in league play. The Cardinals will host Bowling Green on Friday before welcoming the Rockets. Rebecca Harrington (10-2), Jessica Braun, and Silvia Martinez (7-0) are among Ball State's leaders in singles play.
