Sophomore kicked off conference play with two wins on the No. 1 singles court
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo sophomore JJ Scholten was named the Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Scholten started off conference play by earning victories over Miami and Northern Illinois on the No. 1 singles court. She tallied a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 win over Miami's Maria Oliveria and snapped her five-match win streak on Friday.
The Arlington, Va. native closed out the weekend by battling to a three-set win against NIU's Irmak Budak, 0-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Scholten improves to 7-5 overall on the season and 2-0 in MAC play. She now owns an overall record of 11-0 in MAC singles matches throughout her career.
UT returns to action against Eastern Michigan on Sunday, March 22 in Ypsilanti, Mich. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
