Toledo Drops Nail-Biter to Bowling Green, 4-3

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team hosted arch-rival Bowling Green on Sunday, falling to the Falcons 4-3 at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts.
"This one stung for sure," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "We started the match with some great doubles, but our singles play wasn't where it typically is. It was a great experience for all of my young players to go through a match like this because it's extremely motivating. I believe in these girls and I know they are ready to get back to work."
The Rockets got off to a good start on Sunday by winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead over BGSU. Freshman Cassie Alcala and sophomore Sloane Teske took down the Falcons' No. 1 doubles tandem on the top court. Sophomore Laura Morera and senior Patricia Panta then won on the No. 2 court to clinch the point.
In singles play, Bowling Green tied the match at 1-1 after coming away victorious on court No. 2. Freshman Julia Kuszynski put the Rockets back in the lead with her win on the No. 4 court (6-1, 6-4), but the Falcons tied it up again with a win on court No. 3. Bowling Green won a three-set battle on the top singles court to go up 3-2, and Panta outlasted her opponent on the No. 5 court (7-6, 1-6, 6-3) to even the score at 3-3. It all came down to the No. 6 singles court, where the Falcons came away with a three-set victory to clinch the match and hand the Rockets their first MAC loss of the season.
Toledo continues MAC play next weekend with road matches at Eastern Michigan and Ball State.
