Toledo Falls to Bowling Green in Four Sets

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's volleyball team hosted arch-rival Bowling Green on Tuesday, falling to the Falcons in four sets (15-25, 20-25, 25-23, 19-25).

After dropping the first two sets, the Rockets won a close third set force a fourth. Toledo kept up with BGSU for much of the fourth frame, but the Falcons eventually pulled away and clinched the match.

Freshman Taylor Alt had a match-high 21 kills on Tuesday, her third match with at least 20 kills this season. Sophomore Ryann Jaqua added 23 digs, while sophomore Rhyenne Filisi contributed six kills and a team-high four blocks. Sophomore Olivia Vance collected eight terminations and two blocks. Freshman Payton Morman had 39 assists.

Toledo visits Ohio on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

1st Set (25-15, Bowling Green)

The Rockets scored the first point of the night on a kill from Alt, but that would be Toledo's only lead in the first set. The Falcons scored four of the next five points to open up a 5-2 lead, and eventually built a double-digit lead at 19-9. BGSU would win the set by the same 10-point margin, 25-15, to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Bowling Green hit a robust .500 in the first set.

2nd Set (25-20, Bowling Green)

The Falcons never trailed in the second set, winning 25-20 to taker a 2-0 lead in the match. Toledo did manage to tie the score at 11-11 thanks to consecutive kills from Alt, but BGSU scored three of the next four points to move ahead 15-12. The closest the Rockets got was within two, 17-15. Bowling Green took advantage of 12 Toledo attack errors and a pair of service error to move ahead 2-0 in the match.

3rd Set (25-23, Toledo)

With the set tied at 12-12, the Rockets scored the next six points to move ahead 18-12. Senior Emma Swope started the 6-0 run with a termination and classmate Chloee Kleespies followed that up with a block. The run ended with two straight blocks from the Rockets, who had five total blocks in the third stanza. Toledo received a scare when BGSU came within one, 24-23, but Swope recorded the clinching point to send the match to a fourth set.

4th Set (25-19, Bowling Green)

The Rockets jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but Bowling Green scored the next five points to move ahead 6-5. Toledo tied the fourth set at 14-14 , but BGSU secured the next point to take a 15-14 lead that it would not relinquish. The Falcons scored six of the final eight points to win 25-19 and take the match.
