SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The University of Toledo baseball team ended its weekend on a high note, defeating Wofford 9-6 on Sunday afternoon.
"It feels so good to back into the win column," head coach
Rob Reinstetle said. "Today the boys responded in a big way. The offense did a great job of continuing to score and put us in a position to win. We got some great performances on the mound.
Layne Schnitz-Paxton was outstanding out of the pen and gave us everything he had.
Cal McAninch then came in and shut the door."
Schnitz-Paxton provided the Rockets with 5.2 innings out of the bullpen and struck out seven, while McAninch pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth to record his first save of the year.
At the plate,
Marcus Strother went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and his first home run of the season.
Thomas Eitniear and
Mason Sykes both drove in a couple runs, and
Chris Meyers reached base in all five of his plate appearances with two hits and three walks.
"This is just what we needed as we start MAC play next week," Reinstetle said. "We need to get a few guys back healthy and in the lineup for next week. We still have things to work on, but I couldn't be happier for the team and the performance today."
The Rockets will visit the Miami RedHawks next weekend to open conference play.
