Box Score

TOLEDO, Ohio – Despite a late rally that nearly turned into a miraculous comeback, the University of Toledo women's basketball team (9-10, 5-10 MAC) dropped its Wednesday evening contest to Miami (3-17, 2-14 MAC) at Savage Arena, 62-60.

Sophomore Quinesha Lockett led the team in scoring with 19 points, while senior Tatyana Davis was close behind with 16, 13 of which came in the second half. Freshman Sammi Mikonowicz added nine points to help the cause.

Though they trailed by double-digits for much of the game, the Rockets put together an inspired comeback attempt in the closing minutes. They trailed by as many as 13 points, 60-47, with less than two minutes to play before they began chipping away at the Miami lead.

Sophomore Quinesha Lockett made one of her two free throw attempts to cut the deficit to 12, then a RedHawk offensive foul on the ensuing possession gave Toledo the ball back and allowed senior Tatyana Davis to head to the line, where she also made one of two freebies.

Sophomore Sophia Wiard forced a turnover on the next Miami possession and found Davis wide open for a three-pointer, which cut the deficit to eight, 60-52, with 1:11 to go in the game. Miami turned the ball over on the third straight possession following the Davis trey, though the Midnight Blue and Gold could not convert a pair of free throws to take advantage.

Miami's Kelly McLaughlin knocked down two shots from the charity stripe to put the score at 62-52 with 45 seconds to go. Lockett fought her way to the charity stripe again and made one of two shots, before the RedHawks once again turned the ball over with an errant pass out of bounds. Sophomore Mali Morgan-Elliott drove to the hoop for two with 16 seconds to go to make it 62-55, then Mikonowicz added another bucket to put the Rockets within two possessions, 62-57, with 9.5 seconds left.

Wiard jumped a passing lane and forced the fifth Miami turnover in the final two minutes and found Davis, whose three-pointer with 0.1 seconds on the clock brought about the final score, 62-60, for a disappointing but thrilling ending to Wednesday's action.

Next up for Toledo is a trip to Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 5:00 p.m.
