TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo freshman
Joy Chirchir will represent the University of Toledo at the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday, Nov. 20. The women's 6K race begins at 10:20 a.m. and will be aired live on ESPNU. Live stats from the race will be available
here.
Chirchir, who won the individual MAC Championship title on Oct. 30, qualified for the nationals and earend All-Region honors with a time of 20:22.5 at the Great Lakes Regional in Evansville, Ind. on Nov. 12. She enters Saturday's race battling a nagging lower leg injury.
"Joy is a little bit banged up right now so we're looking at this as an opportunity for her to gain some experience at the national level," said Toledo Head Coach
Andrea Grove-McDonough. "The NCAA Cross Country Championship meet is unlike any other competition. It's hard to describe how tight the field is and how bunched up the runners are. So it's really important that Joy experience that because she's just a freshman and has many more races ahead of her."
