Toledo Visits Northern Illinois this Weekend

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's volleyball team (15-6, 6-3 MAC) will visit Northern Illinois (9-10, 3-6 MAC) for two matches this weekend.

Friday's match is schedule for a 7:00 p.m. ET start and Saturday's contest will begin at 5:00 p.m. ET. Both matches will be streamed by NIU and links can be found below.

MAC Tournament Picture
The 2021 Mid-American Conference Tournament will feature the top six teams in the league standings, regardless of division.

At the midway point of the MAC season, the Rockets find themselves inside that top six:
  1. Bowling Green (9-0 MAC)
  2. Ball State (8-1 MAC)
  3. Western Michigan (7-2 MAC)
  4. Toledo (6-3 MAC)
  5. Ohio (5-4 MAC)
  6. Kent State (4-5 MAC)
Of Toledo's nine remaining matches, two will be against teams inside the top six, and both will be played at home: Oct. 30 vs. Bowling Green and Nov. 17 vs. Ball State.

Last Time Out
Toledo played at Ball State on Tuesday night and lost in four sets. The Rockets won the first set, but the Cardinals were able to pull ahead and win the next three to win the match and increase their lead in the MAC West.

Taylor Alt was productive on Tuesday, tallying 20 kills and nine digs, her third straight match with at least 20 terminations. Sina Uluave notched her third straight double-double and sixth of the season. Elaine Redman contributed 46 assists and four blocks, while Rhyenne Filisi added six blocks and five kills.

Quick Hits
  • Taylor Alt has been on a tear as of late and now leads the MAC in kills (4.01/set), making her the only player in the league to average at least four kills/set.
  • Toledo has been an outstanding defensive team all season long, and especially in conference play. The Rockets are holding MAC opponents to a .148 attack percentage and are blocking at a rate of 2.68/set, both of which rank second in the conference.
  • Sina Uluave has tallied three straight double-doubles and is averaging 3.55 kills/set and 3.82 digs/set during that time.
  • Rhyenne Filisi is averaging 1.29 blocks/set during conference play, second in the league behind EMU's Raeven Chase (1.55 blocks/set). Filisi has had at least five blocks in four MAC matches.

About Northern Illinois
Northern Illinois comes into the weekend having lost four of its last five matches, though three of those four losses came against Bowling Green and Ball State. The Huskies sit in the middle of the pack in the MAC in hitting (.205, seventh) and kills (13.18/set, sixth) but have two of the most efficient offensive threats in the league. Jasmine Kemp (.317) and Charlie Atiemo (.313) ranks fifth and seventh in the conference in attack percentage, respectfully.
