TOLEDO, Ohio – Nick Stenuf has been promoted to the position of associate head coach of the cross country and track & field programs at the University of Toledo, Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Andrea Grove-McDonough announced today.

Stenuf had previously served as an assistant coach for the Rockets since 2019.

"Nick has played a major role in helping to build our program and is certainly deserving of this promotion," said Grove-McDonough, who is in her third season leading the cross country and track program at UToledo. "I look forward to working with Nick to help our student-athletes reach their goals, both athletically and academically."

"I would like to thank Andrea, (Senior Associate Athletic Director) Kelly Andrews and (Athletic Director) Mike O'Brien for recognizing my efforts and contribution towards this program and the University," said Stenuf. "I appreciate their confidence in entrusting me in this new role and the responsibilities that come along with it. I look forward to the continued success of our teams."

Stenuf has helped the Rocket cross country and track & field teams make tremendous strides since his arrival in 2019. Currently, the women's cross country team is ranked No. 28 in the country, its highest national ranking since 2014. Last year, Stenuf helped the women take second place at the 2020 MAC Championships, while the Rocket men tied their best-ever league finish with a fifth-place showing.

On the track, Stenuf has helped guide Toledo's distance runners to national prominence. In 2021, Stephanie Sherman earned All-America honors by finishing in 16th place in the 10,000M at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Sherman was joined at the NCAAs by Petronela Simiuc, who qualified in the 1500m.

Stenuf joined the Rockets following a two-year stint as the assistant coach at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan. He worked with Grove-McDonough while at UConn in 2012-13 as the women's cross country assistant coach. At UConn, Stenuf was part of the Big East Coaching Staff of the Year and a Huskies women's team that finished eighth at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Stenuf earned his bachelor of science in business education from the Nazareth College of Rochester in 2008. While at Nazareth, he competed in cross country and track and became the Golden Flyers' first three-season All-American, once in cross country and twice in indoor and outdoor track & field. Stenuf earned his master's degree in sports management from Florida State and was the graduate assistant for the men's and women's cross country and track teams.

Stenuf hails from Syracuse N.Y. He and his wife, Chaeli, have two sons Niko (6) and Tytus (2).
