Box Score TOLEDO, Ohio – With leading scorer junior
Nakiah Black on the sidelines, Toledo head coach
Tricia Cullop was looking for a little spark.
Instead, she found a big one in freshman
Quinesha Lockett. And lots of smaller ones, too.
Lockett scored a season-high 20 points to lead Toledo to a 79-72 overtime victory over arch-rival Bowling Green on Saturday in the women's basketball version of the "Battle of I-75" before 4,385 fans in Savage Arena. Senior
Sara Rokkanen added a career-high 15 points, junior
Tanaya Beacham had nine and senior transfer
Arianne Whitaker chipped in eight.
The Rockets were playing without two-time team captain Black (11.5 ppg), who was injured in Toledo's 65-61 win over Akron on Wednesday. Cullop was able to rely on her depth, though, as nine Rockets hit the scoring column.
With the extra-period victory, Toledo (9-7, 4-1 MAC) has now won six of its last seven games and triumphed for the eighth-consecutive time vs. BGSU (7-10, 0-5 MAC).
As a team, Toledo shot a respectable 48.4 percent (31-of-61) from the floor, including 28.0 percent (7-of-25) from beyond the arc, and a solid 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line.
The Rockets also had a MAC-season high 20 assists with only 13 miscues, marking the fifth time in the last six games they totaled more helpers than turnovers.
Madisen Parker led BGSU (7-10, 0-5 MAC) with a game-high 21 points, followed closely by Kadie Hempfling with 19 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
