Toledo will face Rider, Radford, and Norfolk State this weekend at a tournament hosted by Radford.

Toledo Travels to Radford for Weekend Tournament

TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Toledo women's volleyball team hits the road this weekend for a tournament hosted by Radford University.

The Rockets will face the Highlanders as well as Norfolk State and Rider. All three Toledo contests will be streamed live on ESPN+. Links for streams and live stats are available below. Updates for Toledo matches will also be available on Twitter at @Toledo_VB.

Last Time Out
Toledo hosted the Blue and Gold Tournament last weekend and went 1-2 in matches against North Dakota State, Western Kentucky, and Loyola.
The five-set thriller against Loyola capped an exciting weekend of volleyball at Savage Arena. The Ramblers won the first and third sets handily, while the Rockets won sets two and four in close fashion. In the decisive fifth set, Toledo held on to win, 18-16, and capture its first win of 2019.


Quick Hits
  • Zoe Birnbrich hit .328, averaged 2.45 kills/set, and 0.73 blocks per set, all of which led the Rockets during their opening weekend.
  • Freshman Olivia Vance tallied seven blocks in the win over Loyola, second-most by a MAC player last weekend.
  • During her first full-time weekend as Toledo's libero, Rhyen Neal averaged 3.64 digs/set and tallied a career-high 24 digs in the win over Loyola.
  • The Rockets will feature six newcomers this season: Jada Bouyer, Abby Erickson, Ryann Jaqua, Rachel Pierce, Abby Ray, and Olivia Vance.
 
Scouting the Opponent
Rider: The Broncos went 0-4 during their season-opening tournament last weekend at Georgetown. Rider faced the Hoyas as well as Central Arkansas, Central Connecticut State, and Sacred Heart. Over four matches, the Broncos hit .112 as a team and allowed opponents to hit .224. Morgan Romano led the team by averaging 3.73 kills/set.

Radford: The Highlanders are 2-1 entering the weekend after defeating UTRGV and Bethune Cookman at a tournament hosted by Houston Baptist. Radford hit .175 as a team last weekend. Individually, Mallory McKnight averaged 1.00 blocks/set and hit .333, while Alyssa Carruth averaged a team-high 3.20 digs/set.

Norfolk State: The Spartans faced Hampton twice last weekend, falling in three sets in both matches. Norfolk State struggled against the Pirates, hitting -.006 and averaging just 6.5 kills/set. Anna Rupertova led the team with 1.83 kills/set and Bojana Bolozan led the team with 0.67 blocks/set
