How it Happened
- Smith struck out two batters in the top of the first and picked off the only runner to reach base that inning to get UT off to a strong start.
- Boss led off the bottom of the first with a home run, his fourth dinger of the season, to give Toledo an early 1-0 lead.
- Miami answered with a run in the top of the second, tying the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly.
- Boss drove in two more runs in the bottom of the second to put UT ahead, 3-1. Campbell and Mohnickey both scored on the two-run double.
- The RedHawks once again had an answer at the plate, tying the game at 3-3 on a two-run home run to left field.
- Freshman Thomas Eitniear gave the Rockets a 4-3 advantage with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.
- After allowing the home run in the third, Smith finished strong with good innings in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to keep Toledo out in front.
- Mohnickey ripped a two-run double deep into the gap in left-center field in the bottom of the fifth to open up a 6-3 lead for the Midnight Blue and Gold. The rookie catcher also had a clutch defensive play in the bottom of the seventh, throwing out a would-be base stealer at third base.
- Schwartzenberger added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single that scored Davis.
- The RedHawks made things interesting in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs courtesy of a couple Rocket errors, but the bullpen held strong and helped Toledo come away with a 7-5 win.
