Toledo Opens December with Trip to Cleveland State

          TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team (5-2) begins the month of December with a trip to Northeast Ohio to battle Horizon League foe Cleveland State (4-4). The contest will be streamed on ESPN-Plus and tip off at 7:00 p.m. in the Wolstein Center.
        The Rockets returned from a week-long break on Saturday by edging Oakland, 65-63, in Savage Arena. Senior Luke Knapke topped three Rockets in double digits with 17 points. He was joined by junior Spencer Littleson (14 pts.) and Marreon Jackson (13 pts.). Senior Willie Jackson grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and ranks fourth nationally with 12.6 rpg.
        Marreon Jackson leads Toledo offensively with 17.3 ppg and is tied for sixth nationally (as of Dec. 1) with 7.3 apg. He is joined in double figures by Knapke (15.1 ppg), Littleson (13.6 ppg), redshirt freshman Keshaun Saunders (10.6 ppg) and junior Dylan Alderson (10.0 ppg).
        The Vikings enter Wednesday's game with a three-game win streak. Junior Alvon Eichelberger is pacing CSU with 13.2 ppg and ranks second with 6.8 rpg.

SERIES
   Toledo leads 10-5. The Rockets have won their last five meetings vs. the Vikings after CSU evened the series at 5-5 with a four-game winning streak. Toledo has split six contests it has played on the road in the series.

•  Toledo is ranked No. 17 in this week's CollegeInsiders.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll after being ranked No. 18 for the previous two weeks.
•  The Rockets' four double digit wins this season give them 19 victories of 11 points or more since the start of the 2018-19 season.
•  Toledo ranks 11th nationally in scoring margin (+20.1), 14th with 30.7 def. rpg, 16th with 10.1 3FG/game and 19th with 83.1 ppg and 17.3 apg (as of Dec. 1).
•  Marreon Jackson has dished out a career-high 10 assists twice this season and ranks fifth in MAC with 17.3 ppg.
•  Jackson has scored a career-high 27 points on two occasions, the first in the Rockets' season opener at Valparaiso and the second vs. Howard on Nov. 17.
•  Luke Knapke, who was named MAC West Division Co-Player of the Week on Nov. 18, is the only Rocket to score in double digits in every game this season. He ranks second on the team with 15.1 ppg and 8.4 rpg and is tied for second in the MAC with 2.3 bpg.
• Knapke ranks second on Toledo's all-time blocked shot list with 152 career blocks, three behind Nathan Boothe (2012-16).
•  Willie Jackson leads the MAC and ranks fourth nationally with 12.6 rpg after ranking fourth last year with 8.9 rpg. He has led the Rockets on the boards in six of seven games this season, including a career-high tying 20 rebounds at Notre Dame on Nov. 21. Jackson registered nine double-doubles last year and led or shared the team lead in rebounding on 21 occasions.
•  Spencer Littleson has scored in double digits five times and ranks second on the team with 48.6 FG% and 45.0 3PTFG%. He also is tied for fifth in MAC with 2.0 spg with Marreon Jackson ranking second at 2.6 spg.
•  Dylan Alderson ranks third in the MAC with a team-high 57.8 field-goal mark and sixth with a team-best 47.8 3PTFG% (11-of-23).
•  Keshaun Saunders is Toledo's Sixth Starter and has scored in double digits off the bench three times. He ranks fourth in team scoring with 10.6 ppg and has a team-high 92.9 FT% (13-of-14). He has scored a season-high 18 points twice, at Valpo (Nov. 5) and vs. Robert Morris (Nov. 16).
 
SOME TEAM STATISTICAL TIDBITS
•  Toledo has made nine or more three-pointers in six of seven games, including 14 treys at Marshall which is tied for third in program history and three shy of the school record..
•  Toledo was 5-1 last season in games decided by five points or less but is 1-2 this year with a pair of two-point defeats at Valpo and Notre Dame. The Rockets are 13-5 in games decided by five points or less since the start of the 2017-18 season.
•  Toledo committed 21 turnovers in each of its losses to Valparaiso and Notre Dame.
•  Toledo has held all seven opponents under a 45.0 FG%, including four under 40.0.
•  Toledo was 21-3 when outrebounding its opponent last year and is 5-2 this season.
•  Toledo was 21-1 last year when holding its opponent under 45 percent shooting but is 5-2 this season.
•  The Rockets were 19-0 when holding their opponent under 70 points last year but suffered a 64-62 loss to Notre Dame on Nov. 21.
 
ON THE HORIZON
    Toledo will host Marshall on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2:00 p.m. before taking a week off for final exams. The Rockets' final three games before a week-long Christmas break will include a pair of road games at Detroit Mercy (Dec. 14) and UMKC (Dec. 17) as well as a home game vs. Wright State (Dec. 21).
