KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Toledo men's tennis team closed out the first day of action at the Mid-American Conference Invitational on Friday with five doubles victories.
"We feel pretty good about our start of the weekend," said head coach
Al Wermer. "We talk about a lot of things which are in a doubles team's control, like energy and communication. We've got a long ways to go, but ours was awesome today."
Senior
Danilo Vukotic and junior
Filip Zupancic fought their way to the Flight 1 doubles championship match, posting wins over Ball State's Danilo Kovacevic/Thibault De Negri and Binghamton's Michael Pawlowicz/Tiago Lourenco with scores of 8-4 each. Vukotic/Zupancic faced off against Western Michigan's Jannik Opitz/Kennosuke Nouchi in the final but took runner-up in the flight after falling 8-5.
The freshman duo of

Max Skaer fell 8-7 in its first match in Flight 3 to Adi Ben Ari and Arjun Honnappa from Binghamton, and Western Michigan, respectively. They rebounded to tally a pair of wins over Binghamton's Luke Karniewich/Sebastian Quiros, 8-6, and Ball State's Khamasi Muhiga/Alec Robillard, 8-4.

Cole Shoults and freshman
Krzysztof Wetoszka posted a win against Ball State's Eli Herran/Parrish Simmons (8-2).
Play will resume Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. with singles action.
