Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo women's soccer team (3-1-1) is set to host Horizon League opponent Detroit Mercy (1-3-1) this Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Scott Park. UT will be celebrating national Read a Book day. Fans who donate a book at the entrance will receive free admission to the match. Thursday is also Local Soccer Night where all Toledo-area soccer players will get free admission.
Last time out
The Rockets are coming off a 2-0 shutout over IUPUI on Saturday in their home opener. The win extended UT's winning streak to three games.
Toledo's goals were scored by senior
Natalie Knauf and sophomore
Alex Troy. Knauf's goal came in the 14th minute off a penalty kick. Senior
Hannah Scafaria dribbled into the box but was taken down by the heel before she could shoot. Knauf was elected to the dot and calmly placed it left of the keeper to put UT up 1-0 and claim her first goal of the season.
Troy's goal came in the 36th minute. Sophomore
Sophia Lewis took the ball in to the right of the 18-yard box and played a short pass that Troy was able to place to the left of the goalkeeper. Troy's goal was her second of the year.
Scouting Toledo
The Rockets are lead by senior captain
Hannah Scafaria who's netted five goals through five games, including a hat trick against UIC on Aug. 26. Scafaria had a breakout year in 2017, scoring eight goals and two assists and shows no signs of slowing this season. The UT attack is rounded out by Lewis and Troy who have each recorded almost 200 minutes this season. Lewis has netted one goal and assisted in another, and is a consistent threat along the wing. Troy regularly plays in the middle and contributed goals in Toledo's 2-0 wins over Valparaiso and IUPUI.
Sophomore
Madison Perrin has been Toledo's main goal keeper this season. Perrin holds a 2-1-1 record with one shutout, a .789 save percentage and a 1.00 GAA.
Last time against Detroit Mercy
Toledo and the Titans played to a 0-0 double overtime draw in Detroit on Aug. 18, 2017. Perrin made five saves on the day and the Rockets put four of their 10 shots on goal. Detroit Mercy's Marina Manzo recorded three saves, and her side put five of their seven goals on frame.
Scouting the Titans
Detroit Mercy holds a 1-3-1 record and is coming off a weekend in Florida that saw them lose 4-0 to No. 24 University of South Florida on Thursday and play to a 0-0 draw against Stetson on Sunday. The Titans are led by Julie Ann Piechocki and Carly Fiorido who've each recorded one goal this season. In net for Detroit Mercy is Manzo who's gone 1-3-1 with two shutouts and holds a .809 save percentage with a 1.72 GAA.
