TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo softball team will host I-75 rival Bowling Green for a three-game series on April 6-7 at Scott Park. The Rockets and Falcons game on Friday has been moved up to noon due to possible inclement weather. The two teams will start their Saturday doubleheader in the scheduled 1:05 p.m. time slot.Â
Toledo (22-13, 6-1 MAC)
The red-hot Rockets have won eight of their last nine games including six of seven wins to open the Mid-American Conference schedule. UT is currently sitting a half game ahead of Ball State for sole possession of first place in the MAC West division. Toledo started the MAC slate with a 3-0 series sweep over Akron and two wins over Kent State to claim the season series over the Golden Flashes. UT earned a midweek victory over Eastern Michigan on Tuesday to pull to 6-1 in league play.
The Rockets offense is led by freshmen
Bailey Curry and
Kylie Norwood who are hitting .363 (41-for-113) and .333 (39-for-117), respectively. Two other players, senior
Ashley Rausch and junior
Katie Cozy, are just shy of the .300 mark at .299 this season. UT's power number are up this year as well. The team has combined for 28 home runs, 52 doubles and five triples thus far.
Juniors
Kailey Minarchick (12-4) and
Heather Webb (10-6) have done the heavy lifting for the Rockets' pitching staff. The duo has combined for 81% of the team's innings pitched and has record all 22 of Toledo's wins in the circle.
Bowling Green (18-15, 1-5 MAC)
The Falcons got off to one of their best starts in program history, but have cooled off substantially in their last seven contests. Bowling Green started the campaign with a 9-1 record before dropping eight of their next 11. Recently, the Falcons have been on the wrong side of five of the last seven outcomes.
BGSU's lineup is led by Aspen Searle and Kali Holcomb. Searle tops the squad in average (.373), hits (41), doubles (10), triples (2) and runs scored (24) entering the weekend. Holcomb is the leading run producer in the line up with a team-high seven home runs and 30 RBIs.
