Columbus, Ohio— The Toledo baseball team visited Ohio State on Wednesday evening and fell to the Buckeyes by a score of 19-4.

Freshman Jacob Youngpeter started his first game as a Rocket and, overall, Toledo threw eight pitchers on Wednesday night. Junior Chris Hampton made his Rocket debut, throwing a scoreless eighth inning.

Junior Ross Adolph drove in the first UT run in the first inning and senior Casey Gose had three hits, his third consecutive game with multiple hits since entering the starting lineup. At the plate, freshman Trace Hatfield reached base in his first three plate appearances. Hatfield singled in his first at-bat, followed that up with a double, then walked to load the bases in the fifth inning.

The Rockets resume MAC play this weekend with a three-game series at Miami. First pitch in Oxford on Friday is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

How it Happened

The Rockets jumped out in front with a 1-0 lead after one frame. Adolph grounded out, but Hatfield was able to score on the play. He and freshman John Servello both singled and advanced up one base due to a passed ball, allowing Adolph to drive in the game's first run.
The Buckeyes took the lead in the bottom of the second. After loading the bases, OSU scored two on a single up the middle and a third on a sac fly to left field. After two frames the Rockets trailed, 3-1.
OSU added another run in the bottom of the third to go ahead 4-1.
The bottom of the fourth was the biggest inning of the night offensively for Ohio State. Toledo surrendered six runs and fell behind 10-1, with the big hit being a three-run home run to right field off the bat of Conner Pohl.
Toledo loaded the bases in the top of the fifth- senior AJ Montoya was hit by a pitch, Gose singled, and Hatfield walked- but weren't able to capitalize with any runs.
Five more runs came in to score for the Buckeyes in the bottom of the fifth. Two singles and two bases-loaded walks did the damage in that inning.
Ohio State scored four in the bottom of the sixth to take a 19-1 lead.
The Rockets scored three in the top of the eighth. Freshman Zach Schwartzenberger scored on an RBI double from Adolph, Servello scored on a wild pitch, and Adolph touched the plate after a fielder's choice.
