Toledo, Ohio – The University of Toledo's women's tennis team will look to add to its five-game winning streak this weekend when the Rockets host Detroit Mercy on Friday, Feb. 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Twos Athletic Club in Toledo.
Â
The Rockets (6-2) are coming off a weekend sweep of Cincinnati and Wright State last weekend, giving them their longest winning streak since 2013. Mimi Kendall-Woseley shined for Toledo in both matches as the deciding singles competitor in a pair of 4-3 victories. At the No. 2 spot in Friday's match against the Bearcats, she fought back fought back after trailing 2-5 in the third set to clinch the win for UT. Kendall-Woseley again secured the victory the next day when she swept her opponent at No. 2 singles, earning the match point.
Â
Head coach Tracy Mauntler said her team's ability to "sync up" has been a key to the Rockets' recent success.
Â
"The team's competitiveness and energy stood out to me last weekend. They were hungry and weren't going to quit until they won," Mauntler said. "I like the team's synergy right now. They are learning they can do such much more together than they can as individuals."
Â
Mauntler said Kendall-Woseley's leadership has been a big plus, describing her as a "gamer" who knows how to dial-in during competition.
Â
"Mimi's mind is great during competition," Mauntler said. "She doesn't let pressure get to her. She has the ability to block out negativity."
Â
LAST MEETING
Toledo and Detroit last saw each other on Feb. 3, 2017 at Detroit. The Titans won, 4-3, in a match that saw the Rockets sweep the No.1-3 singles spots thanks to Sidnay Huck, Colleen O'Brien and Kendall-Woseley but come short in the No. 4-6 singles and doubles matches.
Â
COMING UP
The Rockets return to action on Tuesday, March 6 when they travel to Fullerton Calif. to take on CSU-Fullerton.
