Rockets Earn Sixth-Straight Win With 6-1 Victory Over Detroit

Toledo, Ohio - The University of Toledo women's tennis won its sixth-straight match with a 6-1 victory over Detroit at Twos Tennis Club in Toledo on Friday. The Rockets (7-2) need one more win to match the longest streak in head coach Tracy Mauntler's tenure. Mauntler's teams won seven straight matches in 2010 and 2013.

"It was another good win today against a team that beat us last year," Mauntler said after the match. "These tangible results are great for the confidence of the entire team. We just want to use this momentum while continuing to improve with every match."

The Rockets' first point of the day came from clinching the doubles point. Senior Sidnay Huck and junior Kokoro Chishaki won their match at No. 1 doubles, 6-2. Sophomore Mimi Kendall-Woseley and junior Thalita Rodrigues won, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point. Senior Colleen O'Brien and sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong were leading, 5-3, at No. 3 when the match was discontinued.

Singles wins came from Kendall-Woseley, Leenabanchong, O'Brien, Chishaki and Miller. O'Brien and Miller swept their matches. Kendall-Woseley and Chishaki each won their matches after dropping the first set. Leenabanchong won by default when her opponent suffered an injury and could not continue.

Following today's win, Toledo takes a break from play until March 6 when the team travels to Fullerton, Calif. to play CSU-Fullerton, the first of three matches in California during UT's Spring Break trip.
