UT Heads to “Hoosier State” for Hoosier Invitational This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, IN - Toledo returns to the links this weekend when it competes in Indiana's Hoosier Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, April 1-2. The two-day tournament will take place at the Indiana University Golf Course (Par-71, 6,813 Yards).
The 54-hole event will feature a shotgun start on both days, with 36 holes being played on Saturday starting at 8:45 a.m. and 18 holes on Sunday beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The Rockets will be joined in the 13-team field by Bradley, Charlotte, Detroit Mercy, Drake, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Illinois State, IUPUI, Oakland, Valparaiso, Western Illinois, Youngstown State and host Indiana. In addition, Oklahoma State will have three individuals compete in the two-day event.
No. 77 Charlotte will be the highest ranked squad in the latest Golfstat rankings to participate in this weekend's tourney, followed by No. 113 Hoosiers, No. 147 UT, No. 157 Illinois State and No. 160 Bradley.
Toledo's lineup at the Hoosier Invitational will include junior co-captain Stephen Watts, freshman Joe Bryce, sophomore Spencer Shoemaker, freshman Thomas Thurloway and junior co-captain Colin Joseph. Watts and Thurloway currently lead UT with 73.9 and 74.0 stroke averages, respectively.
UT is coming off a seventh-place finish at George Mason's Mission Inn Spring Spectacular on March 18-19 at Howey-in-the-Hills, FL. The Rockets posted a team score of 918 (304-306-308) at the El Campeón Course (Par-72, 6,966 Yards) at the Mission Inn Golf Resort to find themselves tied with Florida Atlantic among 17 teams.
Individually, Bryce led the Midnight Blue & Gold at 12-over par 228 (77-78-73) and tied for 28th place, followed by Joseph (79-75-77) and Thurloway (71-76-84), who tied for 41st place at 15-over par 231.
The Rockets will participate in this weekend's event for the fourth time in the last five years. Two years ago, UT posted a team score of 20-over par 872 (289-279-304) to finish in fifth place, 19 strokes behind champion Wisconsin at one-over par 853 (286-279-288).
Individually, former Rocket Chris Selfridge (72-66-74) led Toledo at one-under par 212 to place fifth, including a collegiate low 66 in the second round.
Xavier's Jose Montano secured medalist honors at six-under par 207 (71-67-69), winning by three strokes over Wisconsin's Jack Watson (68-70-72) and Cincinnati's John Michael O'Toole (70-68-72) at three-under par 210.
