Akron duo separated by one stroke after 36 holes
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Akron natives Solomon Petrie and Braden Herstich paced the Toledo men's golf team in Monday's opening two rounds of the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial. The tournament is being played at the par-71, 7,116-yard Birdwood Golf Course.
Host No. 2 Virginia is leading the 12-team field at 22-under par after shooting 15-under in this afternoon's round. No. 45 SMU is four strokes back, while No. 14 Tennessee and No. 25 Florida State are six shots behind the Cavaliers. Virginia's Paul Chang holds the individual lead at 10-under par.
Petrie shot two-over par today, while Herstich was one shot behind at three-over par.
Petrie bounced back from shooting four-over par in his first 10 holes this morning by notching three straight birdies to finish at one-over. The junior then bogeyed three of four holes to open his afternoon round before closing it out with two birdies and 12 pars.
Herstich was at three-over par through nine holes this morning before playing his second nine at one-under. The freshman then registered three straight birdies to finish his afternoon round at one-over par.
Toledo's tee teams in the third and final round will begin tomorrow at 9:45 a.m.
