Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Toledo Falls to Bowling Green, 3-1

Toledo, Ohio— The Toledo women's volleyball team lost to rival Bowling Green 3-1 (22-25, 11-25, 25-21, 21-25) on Saturday to wrap up the weekend.

Both Annie Beasley (12) and Rachel Vidourek (11) tallied double-digits in kills on Saturday, while Maurissa Leonard recorded 36 digs. Carly Townsend once again led the team with 35 assists and Andrea Stephenson had 10 digs. Beasley and Saige Thomas led the Rockets with three total blocks each.

For the weekend, Beasley was UT's offensive leader with 2.57 kills per set and 0.57 blocks per set. Leonard was a defensive stalwart, averaging a whopping 8.86 digs per set. Stephenson added 4.00 digs per set and Townsend contributed 8.57 assists per set combined against Miami and BGSU.

Next up for Toledo are the two final home matches of 2017. The Rockets host Eastern Michigan Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m. and Central Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 5:00 p.m.

First Set: The Rockets jumped out to an early 8-5 lead in the first set, but the Falcons scored four straight points to go ahead 9-8. The two teams traded points as Bowling Green slowly built a 15-12 advantage. Toledo persevered throughout the back-and-forth first frame, eventually pulling within one, 19-18, on a kill from Vidourek. That would be the closest UT would get, unfortunately, as Bowling Green would eventually take the first set by a score of 25-22.

Second Set: Toledo came out of the gates in the second set to an early 3-1 lead, only to see the Falcons score seven straight points to take an 8-3 advantage. BGSU remained in control for the majority of the second set, building its lead to 16-8. With a potent attack and strong blocking up front, the Falcons continued to dominate the second set, leading by as many as 14. Toledo would end up dropping the second set 25-11 to fall behind 2-0 in the match.

Third Set: The Midnight Blue and Gold came out for the third set with a renewed energy. Looking to mount a comeback in the match, the Rockets once again jumped out to an early lead in the third set, by a score of 5-1. The Falcons would not go down easy, however, as they stormed back to bring the set level at 8-8. The score would remain close throughout the majority of the third set, until three straight kills and a Falcon attack error gave Toledo a 19-15 lead. Despite a late Bowling Green rally, UT was able to take the third set 25-21, and brought the match to 2-1. Beasley, Chloee Kleespies, and Emma Swope all had late kills that were crucial to Toledo's third set triumph.

Fourth Set: Bowling Green once again allowed the Rockets to take an early set lead before coming back to even the set score at 4-4. As they did for much of the evening, the two teams continued to swap points; there were nine tie scores in the fourth set, the most of any game tonight. This was the trend until 11-11, when Toledo scored four straight points to bring the set to 15-11. A service ace from Vidourek and a pair of terminations from Beasley fueled the Rockets' run. The Falcons would answer with a streak of their own, taking a 17-15 advantage. The score would remain close through the remainder of the fourth set, until a late surge from the Falcons would seal the victory in the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-1. Beasley and Vidourek did their part in the match's final game, recording five kills apiece. Townsend had a hand in many of those with her 13 assists.
