Dayton, OH – Toledo (2-1) went undefeated on the final day of Wright State's Holiday Inn Invitational. UT first defeated host Wright State, 3-1 (25-20, 15-25, 26-24, 25-20), before immediately returning to the court to power through a five-set victory over SIU-Edwardsville (28-30, 25-16, 27-25, 23-25, 15-11).

"We showed great resolve and determination in our two wins today," Head Coach
Greg Smith said. "We fought back when we were facing adversity, and that's what you need to do to be successful. I saw a lot of great things throughout the weekend that we can build on and we are also able to identify areas where we can improve."

Rachel Vidourek was named to the all-tournament team after registering 22 terminations and eight blocks in UT's final two matches.

Saige Thomas led the team with 30 total terminations after a career-high 19-kill performance vs. SIUE. Freshman MB
Zoe Birnbrich followed with 20 in the two matches.

Carly Townsend tallied a career-high 61 assists vs. the Cougars for a total of 98 on day two of the invitational.

Match 1
The opening set was a back-and-forth affair that featured nine ties and four lead changes. UT pulled away after the score was tied at 15 and controlled the rest of the set. The momentum shifted in Set 2 and the Raiders walked away with a 25-15 victory.

Set 3 was tighter than the first as the lead changed hands on nine occasions. Toledo extended the frame with kills from Birnbrich, Townsend and Thomas, and a WSU attack error locked in the win for UT.

After another close battle, the Rockets scored five straight points to propel them to a 25-20 fourth-set victory.

Match 2
SIUE was looking for its final set point when the Rockets tallied four-straight to knot the score at 24. The two teams evened the score four more times before the Cougars could secure a 30-28 victory in the opening set.

Toledo held SIUE to a .045 ATK% and powered to a 25-15 win in Set 2.

After two more tight frames, the score was tied at two. Toledo won the finale, 15-11, after a 5-1 run by the Rockets thanks to four Cougar errors and a kill by Thomas.

The Midnight Blue & Gold will remain on the road next weekend when they travel to Houston, TX to compete in the Houston Baptist Labor Day Classic. UT will matchup against Penn, North Florida and host Houston Baptist.Â
