Kyesha Neal and Liz Weiler Qualify for NCAA Championships

Jacksonville, FL – Senior Kyesha Neal, senior Liz Weiler and junior Madeline Pacella competed at day two NCAA East Preliminary meet on the campus of the University of North Florida. Neal and Weiler both punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, OR on June 8-11. The top-12 from each event qualify for the final meet.

Neal qualified with a toss of 52.92m. The throw shot past her previous best of 49.55m, and put her ninth at the NCAA East Prelim round. The mark was the longest discus throw in school history.

"I could not be happier for Kyesha to have qualified," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "She came in seeded 41st and in the first of three flights. She hit three big PR throws and qualified. She's an amazing person and athlete who has worked hard for this moment and to see her seize it and excel in it is nothing short of amazing. I can't wait to see what she does in Eugene."

Weiler punched her ticket with a ninth place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:59.73. The time was the second-best time in school history, and a personal best from Weiler. She bested her previous time by five seconds, a mark that was set at the same meet.

"Liz ran a great race tactically and a really smart race overall," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "Her barriers were a lot cleaner and confident than at the MAC meet. Even before this race she was one of the all-time Toledo greats. Running this time and getting to the NCAA finals just cements that even more."

Pacella competed in the high jump, and was unable to clear a bar.

Yesterday, senior Brooke Tullis and freshman Jennifer Lichter competed in the 10,000m. Lichter was very impressive as a freshman running just her second-ever 10,000m run, finishing two spots out of qualifying for the NCAA Finals in Eugene, OR. Lichter ran the 10,000m in 34:39.40 for a 14th place finish, just one second off her personal best time of 34:38.83 and was the highest finishing freshman in the race.

Tullis wrapped up her fantastic career as a Rocket with a 30th place finish in the 10,000m with a time of 35:35.72.

Toledo will wrap up the NCAA East Preliminary Meet on Saturday, May 27. Neal will compete in the shot put at 3:30 p.m.
