Rockets Pick Up Two Victories at Ball State Challenge

Muncie, IN – The Rockets wrapped up the Ball State Challenge on Saturday, April 16. Toledo picked up two victories, three second-place finshes and 11 top-five finishes.

"Today was a pretty good day for us at Ball State," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "This meet was by far the best weather we've had all season and it showed in many of the performances. We really had a great day with PRs in field events. Kyesha continued her amazing senior year with a monster PR in the shot put and a PR and win in the Discus. Madeline also shined today in the high jump with another PR and clearance of 1.74. Nautica Hill put herself in the conversation in the 200 today as well. We just had a good day all around and I'm really happy with where we are right now."

Junior Madeline Pacella and senior Kyesha Neal both picked up victories for the Rockets. Pacella won the high jump in a jump-off with a 1.74m mark, and now sits 26th in the NCAA East Region and in position to qualify for the NCAAs. Pacella also bested the MAC qualifying mark of 1.68m.

Neal had a huge day in Muncie. The Findlay, OH native won the discus throw with a personal-best 47.47m toss. Neal also threw a personal-best in the shot put with a 15.47 toss, earning her a third-place finish. Neal has now qualified for the MAC Championships in the shot put and discus, and sits third and fourth, respectively. Neal also sits at 22nd in the NCAAEast Region in the shot put.

Junior Ty'Shai Freeman punched her ticket to the conference meet with a 11.86m triple jump. Freeman finished second at Ball State and now owns the fifth-best jump in the MAC this season. Freshman Katie Dewey threw a PR in the discus with a 45.41m toss en route to a second-place finish, and senior Liz Weiler also placed second in the 800m with a time of 2:11.28. Weiler was the first collegian to cross the finish-line.

Freshman Nautica Hill picked up two personal-bests in the 100m and 200m. Hill placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 24.75 and fifth in the 100 with a time of 12.19. Hill now owns the ninth-best time in the conference in the 200m.

Yesterday, freshman Anna Bellman threw a personal best 34.94m toss in the javelin. Bellman beat her previous best by over one meter and earned a fourth-place finish.

Neal hit a personal best in the hammer throw with a 49.75m.  Neal picked up a sixth-place finish in the event.

Toledo will be back in action next weekend on Friday, April 22 at the Jesse Owens Classic and the Virginia Challenge.
