Toledo Looks to Make Late Push to MAC Tournament

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo looks to snap a five-match losing streak this week against Mid-American Conference West Division foes Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. The Rockets play host to the Huskies on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 4:05 p.m. and the Broncos on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1:05 p.m. for 'Senior Day.'

Toledo is currently tied for 10th place in the overall MAC standings with four points. Teams earn three points for a win and one point for a tie. The top eight teams make the MAC Tournament, regardless of division.

The Rockets (6-9-1, 1-6-1 MAC) dropped a pair of road matches last weekend, both by a final score of 2-1. On Friday, the Rockets gave up a late goal in the 85th minute against Miami. Two days later, UT fell behind Ball State 2-0 and couldn't reel in the Cardinals in the second half.

Senior Kiersten Johnson scored both of UT's goals over the weekend and has now found the back of the net in three straight contests. Johnson currently ranks fourth in the Mid-American Conference with eight goals, 16 points and 48 shots.

Northern Illinois (4-7-4, 3-3-2 MAC) played to a pair of scoreless draws against Akron and Buffalo over the weekend. The Huskies sit in third place in the MAC West Division standings with three matches remaining in the regular season.

The Huskies are led by sophomore Taylor Sarver and freshman Abby Gregg with six and two goals, respectively. Junior Amy Annala has started all but one match in goal and has totaled 64 saves this season.

Western Michigan (9-6-1, 3-4-1 MAC) broke a three-match losing streak over the weekend against Buffalo and also played Akron to a scoreless draw. The Broncos are tied for fourth place in the West Division.

The Broncos carry four scorers that have each recorded three or more goals in Mackenzie Barber, Liz Abro, Emma Kahn and Kendall Juhnke. Alyssa Burke ranks second in the conference with six assists.

Prior to Sunday's match, Toledo will honor seniors Nicole Jablonski, Kiersten Johnson, Brooke Maletic and Lauren Taylor before their last home match at Scott Park.

After this weekend, the Rockets conclude their regular season by traveling down I-75 to battle arch-rival Bowling Green on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 3:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field.
