BOWLING GREEN, OH - Toledo track & field kicked off the 2016 campaign at the BG Opener in the Perry Fieldhouse on the campus of Bowling Green State University. The Rockets competed against Mid-American Conference foes Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Ball State as well as Horizon League-member Wright State.

Head Coach Linh Nguyen is pleased with the performance in the meet. 

"I thought it was a solid start for the team," Nguyen said. "You can tell there was some rust from the three week break, but we started the year off much better than last year. It's still early and we've got a lot of work to do, but I am happy with the performance."

The Rockets tallied three top-three finishes during the event. Junior Emily Wyrick took home second in the 600m with a time of 1:42.59. Junior Alexandra Domoras also finished second in the pole vault after jumping 3.35m.

Freshman Jennifer Lichter set a personal best in the one mile run with a time of 5:08.15 which earned her third place in the event.

Freshman Katie Dewey also set personal bests in the weight throw at 14.90m and shot put at 11.36m.

UT finished fourth in team scoring with 53.50 points. Western Michigan took home the win with a score of 149.50.

The Midnight Blue & Gold will be back in action at the Bob Eubanks Open in Allendale, MI on the campus of Grand Valley State University.
