Toledo Looks to Return to Winning Ways in Saturday's Matchup vs. Buffalo

QUICK HITTERS
•   Toledo (12-8, 3-4 MAC) continues a three-game homestand on Saturday, Jan. 30 with a matchup against MAC East Division foe Buffalo (11-9, 4-3 MAC). Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena with the contest being televised on BCSN and Time Warner Cable Sports Channel in Ohio and Western New York.
•   The Rockets dropped an 81-79 decision to Ohio at home on Tuesday and need a victory over the Bulls to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season. Buffalo posted a 76-64 home triumph over Ball State on Tuesday.
•   Toledo is in fourth place in the MAC's West Division, trailing first-place Northern Illinois by two games and Ball State and Central Michigan by one game. Buffalo is tied for third place in the MAC's East Division, two games behind first-place Kent State.
•   Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk is in his sixth season at UT's helm and has orchestrated a dramatic turnaround since his arrival in 2010. He possesses a 97-86 (.530) record on the Rocket bench, including a 93-58 (.616) win-loss ledger over the last five years.
•   Kowalczyk has guided Toledo to a share of the 2013-14 Mid-American Conference regular season title in addition to a piece of the 2012-13 MAC West Division title.
•   Senior Nathan Boothe notched his eighth double-double of the season and second in  a row with 21 points and 12 rebounds against the Bobcats. Junior guard Jonathan Williams shared the team scoring lead with 21 points to go along with a team-high five assists and four boards. Toledo rallied from a 22-point second-half deficit to tie the score against Ohio but could never take the lead.
•   Boothe and junior guard Jonathan Williams are the MAC's top two leading scorers with 19.6 and 18.0 ppg, respectively. Boothe also is third in the MAC with a team-high 9.0 rpg, seventh with a team-best 3.7 apg, eighth with a 51.8 FG%, ninth with a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio and 11th with a 41.2 3PTFG%.
•   Boothe, who sets the pace in league scoring with 22.3 ppg and is tied for second with 9.3 rpg, surpassed J.C. Harris (1989-92) as Toledo's all-time blocked shot leader against Ohio and now has 139 rejections.
•   Boothe has been named the MAC's West Division Player of the Week and also earned a spot on CollegeInsiders.com mid-season Mid-Major All-America squad in early January.
•   UT tops the MAC with 78.8 ppg, 16.9 apg and a 1.53 assist/turnover ratio and is second with a 46.1 FG%.
•   Buffalo is averaging a league-high 14.1 turnovers per game and is third in the MAC with 12.7 offensive rpg.
•   Sophomore guard Lamonte Bearden, who is one of three Bulls scoring in double figures with 12.8 ppg and leads UB with 3.3 apg, ranks third in the MAC with 1.6 spg.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
        The Rockets wrap up their three-game homestand against Western Michigan (8-12, 2-5 MAC) on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m. UT will then hit the road for its next two games at MAC East Division leader Kent State (15-5, 6-1 MAC) on Saturday, Feb. 6 as well as a rematch vs. the Bulls on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
